Troutdale
03:20
|
|||
Do you know why
This months gone so slow
I’ve got nothing to do
I’ve washed all my clothes
Take me to Troutdale
Handsome driver
Coasting along, turn on Halsey street
I’m out of reach
I can’t keep
Somethings got a strong hold over me
I’ve got a secret love in a bear trap
Sleeping there til I make it back
He laughs at everything
Been driving weekends since spring
Worked at a warehouse
Said fuck it I’ll make my own hours
Passing water
Driving slower
Dropping me off
He said can you swim
Rapid cuts me, now
I am away
Rapid cuts me
I’ve floated away
I have a secret love in a bear trap
Sleeping there til I make it back

Looks Like Fire
04:05
|
|||
Speed through the snake-shaped bridge
Face of metal with triangle eyes
The city project delights
College mothers, the hippy types
Exit through the rattle
into the puncturing sun
Violet are the rocks
in the desert yards, there are no lawns
Brake for the train, I wait
Golden hour is upon us now
I can see a metaphor
In reflections of pothole pools
Yeah it’s so profound
I’ll write it down when I get home
While listening to Patsy
Cline in the bath through the night
This dusty town’s
Army base shoots mystery lights
They sink behind
Landscapes, they look like fire
It’s pink and grey and it rains
It’s the image they all write about
The color of cowboy art
Sold at fairs by the knitted scarves
And dream catchers and incense
Burning in-between the tarps
Labor day weekend
Brings local shoppers and their city kin
This dusty town’s
Army base shoots mystery lights
They sink behind
Landscapes and they look like fire
For miles and miles they fall
Green glows the boulders bright
We’re so hypnotized
By desert zen we pay no mind

Monty
03:55
|
|||
She drinks Sanka in the afternoon
Or when she’s feeling different
Rides around on Monty
The horse she bought for her daughter
And she sings praises to the lord
Yeah, she sings praises to the lord
Down to one cigarette,
she smokes with her one drink
And old-fashioned with brandy
And an orange that swims around the ice block
Then she dances to the moon
Yeah, she dances to the moon
Haystacks to the sun
Loose straw blows away
Wind spinners turn
Like the day before
Monty is her love
They ride to the line
That borders the town
And wraps around their still life
Kaleidoscope tapestry
Her daughter bought in Milwaukee
Keep it in your room she said
It doesn’t match the farm aesthetic
There’s nothing for you in the city
There’s nothing for you in the city
Haystacks to the sun
Loose straw blows away
Wind spinners turn
Like the day before
Monty is her love
They ride to the line
That borders the town
And wraps around their still life

Your Room
04:05
|
|||
Sprawled on your chair your feet are
On the wall
Talking of mother trouble
In grounded days
Hey you know there’s something about your room
The way the light hits dust in afternoon
Let’s turn your bed around, to windows facing east
Before the record fades and we lose all steam
Magical sight your joint glows
On the roof
Floodlight is getting hazy
She’s home too soon
Hey you know there’s something about your room
The way the light hits dust in afternoon
Let’s turn your bed around, to windows facing east
Before the record fades and we lose all steam

Pace of Space
03:16
|
|||
Change up the pace of space
Maybe then time stays the same
And I could mull it all
Over, catch the wall
lace my shoes again
Stars and the moon, I am
Waiting on your beams to send
Me back to my bed
Wake up and forget
The dark where I’ve been
I’m walking through wild
Spirit land
Pacing in time
With hawks and hens
Oh you’re a real mixed bag
No real need to understand
You fly at night
Dead in the light
Weed changes your mind

Kitchen Window
05:41
|
|||
She caught her neighbor's eye
Through the kitchen window
She wanted not
To reach another mind
His glass is full of barley wine
He rocks in a chair made of alder
In a room so still
Like an Edward Hopper
Scene from a dream
He goes back to his paper
She sweeps the porch at dawn
Dog ears agreement four
Pays for meditation
Green juice and exercise
Eons
Eons and eons ago
He sat in a different room
Back bent
feeling the sweat on his head
There in the stillness of June
More clouds
It’s all different now
She hopes that it’s not just a ruse

Judy's House
04:38
|
|||
Dropped off and Judy’s house
Summer break of '96
I found a place where I could crawl
Behind the bed through the wall
The cool mold air
Serene and all mine
In my age of losing out
From my station in the wall I’d launch
Into the air, my jet spirals in the wind
They say you’re too young to fret, calm down
The same summer I nearly drowned
And I couldn’t channel in
The big wide space
So I counted up my sins
Then Judy saved my life
She put a gate around the pool
In my age of losing out
From my station in the wall I’d launch
Into the air, my jet spirals in the wind
They said you’re too young to fret, calm down
No power lines in my way
Travel vessel of steel
Crawl inside before countdown
Now everything is close and real
In my age of losing out
From my ship inside the wall I’ll sail
To jungle islands with maps to hidden gold
They said you’re too young to fret, calm down
I’m all the way up, there’s no one around
I can float all the time
I’m all the way up, there’s no one around
I can float all the time
I’m up in the air, there’s no one around
I can float all the time

Before My Time
04:34
|
|||
Your vision can’t be true
It’s too sad to think that it can
Your basement’s a bunker
Cleared the food off the shelves
Folded up a bill
Turned it around said can you see it now
You went through a portal
Spit out then went to the bar
You feel the rays on your face
And it burns, it burns you up
Your relics not glass it’s plastic
Your shoes, they’re untied
The poem you wrote, you lost me
I guess it’s before my time
Ancient and holy are you until, til you explode
I’ve been like you just once
I saw the trees were more important than me
Then I felt lighter
And oh so relieved
You feel the rays on your face
And it burns, it burns you up
Your relics not glass it’s plastic
Your shoes, they’re untied
The poem you wrote, you lost me
I guess it’s before my time
Ancient and holy are you until, til you explode
Fell too deep
New rooted voice you have
And it carries you
from where you came from
Welcome back
To your friends with stretched out arms
Nothing moves
Silence you return to
